I totally understand the argument that they were not paying their taxes and it was unfair towards the locals. But the complaints voiced by locals that they are taking advantage of the low cost of living is plain silly. Foreigners should be welcomed. They are bringing in foreign currency. They are supporting the local economy by spending their money in Indonesia. They will spend money on food, housing, and other goods and services. The locals don’t seem to mind tourists who stay only for one week but they have an issue with people staying and supporting the economy for a prolonged period of time.
